Position Summary:

The Program Director oversees the Programming Department and works very closely with the Production Manager, as well as the Traffic and Sales Managers. The Production department is an integral department of the radio stations which includes the scheduling of commercials, tracking and entering copy, and producing daily music logs and other responsibilities that may arise.
The position of Program Director supports the General Manager and Business Manager within the Business Office, which interfaces and communicates with all other departments within the station, including Sales, Traffic, Production, Promotions, and Programming Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Check completed program logs for accuracy and conformance with FCC rules and regulations, and resolve program log inaccuracies.
  • Confer with directors and production staff to discuss issues such as production and casting problems, budgets, policies, and news coverage.
  • Coordinate activities between departments, such as news promotions programming.
  • Monitors Nielsen Ratings books and confers with General Manager for any changes needed for improvements.
  • Responsible for planning and scheduling programming. Responsible for scheduling music through Music Master. Responsible for imaging.
  • Act as link between directors and On Air talent.
  • Facilitate and coordinate guest appearances.
  • Works hand in hand with the promotions department.
    Cue announcers, actors, performers, and guests.
  • Develop promotions for current programs and specials.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in broadcast news, sports, or programming. Establish work schedules and assign work to staff members.
  • Evaluate new and existing programming for suitability and in order to assess the need for changes, using information such as audience surveys and feedback.
  • Monitor and review programming in order to ensure that schedules are met, guidelines are adhered to, and performances are of adequate quality.
  • Manage Staff including recommendations for increases, hiring, and terminations

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience providing programming, administrative support, management, or experience within the broadcasting industry is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of music formats and their audience Spanish music formats preferred MS Office skills (Power Point, Excel and Word) required
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Bilingual Spanish
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills (English required, Spanish a plus)
  • Ability to work under deadlines and in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize daily routine and urgent tasks
  • Working knowledge of radio programming and traffic systems
  • High School Diploma is required, an Associates or Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Valid Drivers license and proof of auto insurance
  • Must pass background check
