I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

The Manager of Content (MOC) supervises the night side staff of the newsroom’s 24 hour Content Center and the daily flow of news to the newsroom for appropriate coverage both on-air and on the station’s digital platforms.

The MOC gathers meaningful news information from various sources, builds the night-side agenda for coverage and amends it throughout the shift as developments dictate. This person also creates reliable relationships with public information officers of various agencies. They also generate story idea, discern credible news tips, oversee special projects for the News Department, schedule news crews and take in live feeds.

The MOC is also responsible for guiding members of the news team in producing online content, maintaining the station’s social media offerings and identifying opportunities that will maximize viewer experience via layout, enhanced coverage elements and interactive content.

The MOC is also responsible for writing stories, posting video, editing images and creating slideshows for the station’s digital platforms, including the station’s social media offerings. Continuously develops on-air products to reflect the current competitive environment.

This person also assumes the duties of the Director of Content in the event of his/her absence.

The CM should have solid news judgment, a sound grasp of online journalism, a sense of urgency for breaking news and the ability to build rapport.

This is a high-pressure, deadline-focused position, which requires a self-starter, who is flexible and has the ability to multitask.

Schedule will likely include nights and possibly weekends.

Experience:

At least three years working in a major market newsroom. Experience using a content management system (CMS).

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong editorial skills and working knowledge of AP Style. Knowledge of content management systems (CMSs), HTML, CSS, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Avid and iNews are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
