Promoting and Advocating for the Broadcasters of Nevada, While Serving the Public

Nevada Broadcasters Association

As we approach our 50th wedding anniversary, Alene and I have made a major decision: We’re going to retire! We’ve saved our money and plotted our course. We want to relax and enjoy life. Only one problem: We own these six radio stations in Northern Nevada, and we have to find someone to manage them. So we’re looking for a Station Manager. Then we’ll gradually step back until that person is ready to take over as General Manager. We’ve spent the last 18 years building up a very successful small market group of FMs, so we’ll be very picky about the person we choose. We’re looking for someone who already understands that ALL management jobs are sales jobs. The ability to become part of the community is critical. High ethical standards are an absolute requirement. We’re looking for someone with a radio background and demonstrated leadership skills, although not necessarily decades and decades of radio management (but if you have that, don’t let it stop you from taking a look at us!). This would be a good step-up for a successful Sales Manager. Elko, Nevada is the third largest gold mining region in the world, behind South Africa and Australia. It is a thriving and healthy community with a very strong economy. What looks like isolation to some folks is actually a great benefit here, because no other markets overlap to compete for our revenue. Elko has a weak newspaper, no TV and only one other radio competitor. Eastlan Ratings tells us that an astonishing 86% of the people who live in the survey area listen to us. All six of our stations are startups. We have the three most powerful signals in the region plus three HD stations on super-translators that cover the market like full-power FMs. Listening to them, you would never guess they’re translators. Our format menu: Hot AC, Mainstream Country, Newstalk, Classic Rock, Classic Country and a format of our own design, best described as “90s, 80s and 2000s.” All this is to say we have a wonderful opportunity for someone who wants to manage an already-successful group of stations in a great town. If you want to find out more, please contact me personally via email, and we’ll make an appointment to talk. My address is Ken@Rubyradio.FM. And if you’re not interested, maybe you know someone who is. Would you please pass this on to them? Thanks! -Ken Sutherland -Alene Sutherland
