SBE Chapter 128 Las Vegas

Meeting called to order at 1pm.

- Certification Chairman Report given by Bill Croghan
- Everyone has to recertify every five years
- There are about two exams given each year – Radio/TV operator exam and broadcast/network technologist exam
- Exams usually given between Feb9 and Feb19
- SBE members don’t need to take exams to be members
- SBE certification is seen as a major plus on a résumé
- Sometimes work experience can be applied for credits

- NWS test is received at government buildings
- Emergency management has the authority to activate NWS in the event of a widespread civil emergency
- Don took over for Andy Bailey and needs to be brought up to speed on his equipment. Bill is going to help him out and explain the equipment and operations at the national weather service.
- Steve suggests that Don be present at next LEPC meeting so he can meet the decision-makers involved in emergency management.
- Copies of Part 11 and Part 73 are required to be available or accessible in the broadcast master control points.
- Steve will post meeting notices up on the mountain for engineers that aren’t included on the e-mails
- Howard Fine assists in local coordination of broadcast auxiliary frequencies for Southern Nevada and California

Finance Report given by Jordan Stroum
- Jordan suggests that some financial policies and procedures be established. This will help protect everyone.
- NBA is thanked for $1,000 donation
- Mike Boucher agrees to take on the treasurer position and review expenditures and reimbursements
- Crown Castle is the new site manager on Mt. Potosi. Luke Christian is primary contact at 408-5147
- Bob Hauck at KLAS is working with the BLM and City of Henderson to have barricades taken down or changed to a gate at Anthem ( Arden) transmitter access site.
- Ray Fodge agrees to be program chairman and try to have a technical demonstration at every meeting
- Bill says an SBE blog would be helpful. People could post mountain conditions and other useful information up there for everyone else to see
- Don wants to link up with a Spanish station so the NWS alerts can be translated
- John Garcia at Ch. 15 will coordinate this. They have news and the staff to execute this
- Bill would like to see the internship program continue. These interns aren’t people to pass off work on, but rather to teach.
- Steve wants to get involved with the establishment of the broadcast museum – A west coast version of the Chicago Radio and TV Museum
- Ray has some really old pieces from the KDWN transmitter site
- NJBA built a museum with donations

Bob Fisher and the NBA were thanked for the refreshments, and for the use of the meeting room as the home meeting location of chapter 128.

The next SBE chapter 128 meeting will be February 22, 2007 at the Nevada Broadcasters Association Meeting room.
